“A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one’s birth.”
Ecclesiastes 7:1
What a novel thought…only in the bible…and in Ecclesiastes would you find such a thought…that the day of your death is better then your birthday.
Oh that Solomon…what a card!
I think it’s in the Pilgrim’s Progress about making death our company-keeper. I had one of my characters in Wells of Glory reflect her reading of that classic and taking this suggestion to heart. Death is our company-keeper from the moment we draw breath to the last exhalation. It dwells in the valley of its own shadow but God said He is with us, trumping death with everlasting life through Christ our Lord. What else can we do eternally but praise Him and reflect His power and great glory?
